Our final day in Antarctica

Today is Wednesday, and its our last day in Antarctica. We started our day at Edinburgh Hill, which is comprised of basalt. The three of boarded a zodiak and we headed to the base of the Hill.

Upon our return, we attended a session led by Kata on “Oceans’ Wolves” about the orcas.

Then while mom read, my sister and I did some laps on the outside deck, then checked out the hot tubs aft, and then also went into the hot tub in the spa. So checked those boxes! My sister got in the cooler outside tub and the warmer ones, I chose to only do the warmer ones.

The ship re-positioned midday, and just now I have seen the first zodiaks headed to shore for the afternoon landing. We ran into Dr. Brandi (chief scientist) in the World Cafe at lunch, and she said this landing is one of the easier ones.

After lunch we did step outside so mom could take a picture with Quin, her adopt-a-penguin that we got her from the UK Antarctica Trust that operates the station on Port Lockeroy. They came on board a few days ago when we were there and had brought some things aboard to raise funds. As far as the name goes, I had sent my mom a penguin a couple years ago when she was first going to come here, and mom had named her “Penny”, so she named this one “Guin”.

Stay tuned for the update from our landing. And there are so many other things that will have to wait until I can go through the over 2500 pictures I have!
