Day “-2”

Its Friday, and i’m at Honolulu Airport. Time to fly to Oakland to meet up with my mom and sister. Officially our trip starts Sunday! I hope/plan to update the blog throughout the trip!

Somehow I have managed to get all I need in these 2 bags that I will carry on. To be fair, the cruise line provides a coat (that we get to keep), winter pants and boots. So that definitely helps.

I do have a checked duffle back to Oakland which some odds and ends. Some of it may make it down to Antarctica, and some will stay in Oakland. The bag itself will go with us in case we need to check that on the way back with our coats. I gave myself ample time to get to Honolulu airport, and got to the gate about 1 hour before boarding. I’m flying Hawaiian flight 48 from HNL to OAK today, and that means I’m flying out of the newest terminal.

As we began to board, they let us know that they aircraft had been changed and was bigger than originally scheduled, so don’t be surprised to find vacant seats around you. And they asked us to refresh our mobile boarding passes since some seats changed. My seat moved back 4 rows, but as we got settled, I realized I had the 2 seats to myself! Bonus!

We have been planning this trip for several months, but work and life has kept me from it sinking in! Plus I have several other big things scheduled later this year, and they all have been excited! After I return, we have UH baseball season starting (we are season ticket holders), followed by CF Advocacy, then the CF Volunteer Leadership Conference which I am co-chairing, then annual trip to KC to visit my in-laws, followed right after with a gathering of my family in MA.

The other big plus when we boarded was learning that we had free StarLink WiFi on the flight! So that’s allowing me to finish this blog post while en route! Tonight my niece who also happens to live in the Bay area will be joining us for dinner. I’m excited to see her, since its been about 18 months since I saw her! Then tomorrow we re-organize our stuff to prepare for our flight on Sunday!
