In January 2025, I will head south with my mother and sister for a cruise to Antarctica. While the trip was not on my “bucket list”, it has been on my mother’s for a couple years. As we have been planning the trip, I am getting increasingly excited about the trip. Not only to see an area of this planet that most people don’t have the opportunity to see, but also to spend quality time with my mother and sister.

I hope to be able to post about our trip nearly daily, but also want to ensure I soak it all in!

Viking Cruise lines has a camera that continuously streams and has a real-time map of where the ship is. Its been fun so far watching it as the summer travel season to Antarctica starts! You can watch it at https://viking.panomax.com/polaris

The exact path of the cruise is subject to change due to weather (and icebergs), but the tentative path is displayed on the image below.

Map of tentative path from Argentina to the Antarctica Penisula

Day 1 is the day we arrive in Buenos Aires. Day 2 we travel via chartered flight to Ushuaia where we board the ship. Day 3 we venture across the Drake Passage where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet. Days 4-10 are spent around the Antarctica Penisula. Weather dependent, we will have the opportunity to go out in Special Operations Boats that take us closer to land, on Zodiac boats where we can land and spend some time on the 7th continent, or to go kayaking. There will also be the opportunity to go on a mini sub (that’s not on my list, but my mom and sister are interested). Day 11 we head back across the Drake Passage. Day 12 is sailing around Cape Horn. Day 13 we return to Ushuaia and disembark, and begin our journey back to the U.S. via Buenos Aires.
